A pilot friend of mine claims the J79 was actually a major milestone, from the perspective of reliability and serviceability, which led to greater uptime for the squadrons of airplanes that depended on them.

they also used it on a bunch of stuff. B-58, F-4, F-104 and A-5. So,e pretty notable aircraft.
